Long-time vapers have most likely experienced the taste of vape coils or wicks that are burnt out. But for those who haven’t yet, they may experience it at some time; however, there are ways to avoid it. Sometimes the coils burn out depending on the device being used, but the main reason to change the coils is for performance reasons, such as if the flavor isn’t the same or the vapor density is less. Over a period, the coils will get full of gunk, and the areas that have buildup will not heat evenly. This does not allow the liquid to vaporize correctly, resulting in less vapor production and a muted flavor.
Although you need to change the coil from time to time for better performance, there are ways to help prevent any coil from burning and extending the life of the coils that can be used for any type of device.
Here are 3 brief tips to extend the life of the coils:
Extending the Life of Your Vape Coils Tip #1: Choosing the Right E-Liquid at Select Vape
Check the PG/VG levels and the sugar content of your e-liquid. Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG) can affect the speed of the liquid from building up on the coils. VG is derived from vegetable oil and is a thicker solvent than PG. It doesn’t soak up the wick and may require a higher wattage to vaporize, which causes a faster build-up on the vape coils. On the other hand, PG has a lower viscosity than VG, which allows the wick to soak up and vaporize easily and quickly. Since VG increases the thickness of juice, it is always better to pick an e-liquid with lower VG levels to avoid problems and to prolong the life of the coil.
When selecting e-liquid(s), you should also check the sugar content. Although the sugar won’t burn the coil instantly, high sugar content in liquids can significantly shorten the life of your coil. This is because when sugar is heated, it instantly caramelizes and produces a weak flavor.
Extending the Life of Your Vape Coils Tip #2: Prime New Coils
This is a process that must be done in order to break in the new coils for them to correctly work. Here are the 3 steps to follow to prime your vape coils correctly:
Step 1: When using a new coil, saturate the wicking material and let it sit for a few minutes.
Step 2: Open the airflow and before powering your e-cigarette or MOD, take a few draws without any heat. The suction will spread the liquid to the dry parts of the wick and saturate it.
Final Step: After the coil/wick is primed, start vaping at a low heat and gradually heat up the coil.
Extending the Life of Your Vape Coils Tip #3: Avoid Chain Vaping
Chain vaping is taking multiple draws within a few seconds. This method of vaping will not allow the wick to soak up fast enough between draws. It also puts a lot of stress on the battery and the coils. Eventually, by keeping the battery on and the heat raised, the battery will drain faster, and the coil will burn out at a quicker rare, shortening the lifespan of the coil.
Vaping can be a pleasant experience, especially if the coils are taken care of and cleaned regularly, as they can make or break your entire experience. By using the tips warning signs mentioned above, you should be able to prevent your coils from burning out and extend the lifespan of them, making your experience an enjoyable one for certain.
