Preventing Possible Mild Headaches When Vaping

It is not uncommon for some vapers to experience mild headaches during or after their vaping sessions. This can be frustrating as it tends to ruin an otherwise relaxing experience. There are a few things to consider if you struggle with this problem and need to remedy your vape related headache.

headachesThere are a good number of vapers out there that do have an allergic reaction to certain types of e-liquids. These allergies are often expressed in the form a headache. There are two types of solutions that are combined with nicotine and flavor to create the liquid that you vape:

  • By far, Propylene Glycol (PG) causes the most allergies and reactions. This is also the most popular liquid form to use in e-juice since it produces a stronger flavor than its alternative.
  • The other solution used in e-liquid is called Vegetable Glycerin (VG). While it is slightly less popular than Propylene Glycol, this liquid is less likely to cause allergies since it is a natural chemical derived from vegetable oil.

If you find yourself getting headaches after vaping, the first place you should look is the ingredient list on your e-liquid bottle. If it has PG in it, there is a good chance that is what is causing the reaction. Go ahead and switch to liquids that only use Vegetable Glycerin. That is not to say that VG cannot cause allergies, though. So just be aware of the type of solution used in your e-juice and take note on how the different types affect your symptoms.

If you have tested different types of e-liquids and are able to determine you have no sensitivity to Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerin, the problem might lie with the nicotine. High levels of nicotine are also known to cause discomfort and headaches, so try switching out your bottle for something with a lower nicotine content. It can be difficult for some people to lower the amount of nicotine they use, but it might be the only way to stop the headaches.

The last possible cause for a headache during a vape session is simply dehydration. Many people do not drink enough water, which in turn produces some negative effects on their health, including frequent headaches. This is due to a lack of electrolytes. Taking deep breaths in or out while your body is already low on electrolytes can lead to an instant headache. So, you need to keep yourself hydrated before, during, and even after your vaping sessions.

Even if the headaches you experience are mild and not bothersome, it is still important to do everything you can to prevent them. A headache is sign there is something going wrong in your body and those signs should never be ignored, no matter how minor they may appear. This is very important if you have an allergy to one of the solutions—do not continue to ingest something your body is trying to reject.

By following the tips outlined above, you should hopefully be able to find the root cause of your headaches. Most commonly it will be a simple Propylene Glycol allergy and you can just switch over to the natural Vegetable Glycerin e-liquids for an easy fix. After checking those ingredients on the bottle, consider selecting something with a little less nicotine. Combine that with adequate hydration and you should be ready for a headache-free vaping experience.
